Next Step STORM is responding to Hurricane Michael in the Panama City, FL area. The degree of our response for long term will be determined through prayer first of all, then according to donations and volunteer interest.
If you have interest in bringing a group to volunteer, please let us know your desire/intent as this helps us in determining future moves. Email us at: hurrimike@nextstepstorm.org |
What to donate?
Cash or major store gift cards are best for several reasons.
1. We can buy what is needed when we see a need.
2. We like to buy local to the storm as that injects funds into the hurting area economy.
3. Trucking is expensive!
4. It takes less manpower when you don't have to manhandle and store items at collection point, loading, arrival location, and warehousing. Warehousing is difficult to find in a disaster area. We don't just drop things off, we make sure they are getting into the intended recipients hands, specifically disaster survivors.
Next Step STORM has historically been "long term recovery" which means we help rebuild after the storm using volunteer labor. Our staff support is by deputation (meaning you can support a team member if you feel so led) and also meaning that if you donate to a particular disaster, you know your money is going to the zone and not paying for marketing or staff. If you donate online, we do pay a small fee and percentage for each transaction.
As we started, so shall we end - with PRAYER. Please pray that the Lord will provide and move us the way that will best glorify Him and bring about change in peoples lives. The spiritual soil has been plowed and now we need those that are willing to work the fields. Please continue in prayer for those in the affected areas!
